Mulch & Garden Beds

Professional mulch & garden beds in Plymouth, IN

Few things transform a yard as quickly — or as affordably — as freshly mulched beds with sharp, defined edges. Mulch is the finishing layer that ties a landscape together, and in Northern Indiana it does real work all year: locking in moisture through dry July stretches, smothering weeds before they take hold, and insulating roots against both summer heat and the deep freezes that roll through Marshall County each winter.

Sunshine Landscape installs premium hardwood and dyed mulches, shapes clean spade-cut edges, and refreshes tired beds so your plantings look intentional and cared-for. We don't just dump and rake — we clean out last season's debris, pull existing weeds, redefine the bed lines, and lay mulch at the right depth so it actually performs instead of just looking good for a week.

Whether you need a single bed touched up, a full property refresh before a spring open house, or a recurring seasonal program, Alex and his crew will match the mulch type, color, and depth to your plants, your home's exterior, and your budget.

What's included

Everything our mulch & garden beds covers

Thorough, detail-focused work from a crew that treats your property like its own.

Bed Cleanout & Prep

We clear out old leaves, spent annuals, and matted debris, then pull existing weeds so the new mulch starts on a clean, healthy base.

Spade-Cut Edging

Hand-cut, defined edges between beds and lawn give your landscape that crisp, framed look and keep grass from creeping in.

Premium Mulch Install

Quality hardwood or dyed mulch laid at the proper depth — usually two to three inches — for real weed and moisture control.

Weed Suppression

Thorough weeding plus correct mulch depth chokes out new weeds; we can add fabric or pre-emergent where it makes sense.

Around Trees & Shrubs

We mulch trees and shrubs with a proper donut shape — never piled against the trunk — to protect roots without smothering bark.

Color & Material Matching

Brown, black, or natural tones matched to your home and plantings, so every bed looks like part of one cohesive design.

Questions

Mulch & Garden Beds FAQs

Late spring — usually mid-April through May — is ideal, once the ground has thawed and warmed and spring cleanup is done. Many Plymouth-area homeowners do a lighter fall top-up too, to protect roots and beds heading into winter. We can schedule whichever fits your yard.

Most beds benefit from a fresh layer once a year. Mulch breaks down over the season — which is good for your soil — but it loses color and thins out, so an annual refresh keeps beds looking crisp and weeds suppressed. Some properties only need a top-up rather than a full reinstall.

We install quality hardwood and dyed mulches in brown, black, and natural tones. Brown is the most popular and versatile, black makes greens and blooms pop against lighter homes, and natural hardwood gives a softer, classic look. We'll recommend a color that complements your home's exterior.

Two to three inches is the sweet spot. That's deep enough to suppress weeds and hold moisture, but not so deep that it smothers roots or holds excess water against your plants. We're also careful to keep mulch pulled back from tree trunks and house siding.

Both — and it's what makes the difference. We pull existing weeds, cut clean spade edges, and clean out debris before any mulch goes down. A fresh layer over a tidy, edged bed looks dramatically better and lasts far longer than mulch dumped over old growth.
